1. Start With the Firm, Not the Domain

A strong venture firm name should work independently of any particular domain extension. Before choosing a name, consider whether it is:

Distinctive — Can the firm be easily distinguished from other investors and businesses?

Memorable — Will a founder remember the name after hearing it once?

Easy to communicate — Can someone spell the name after hearing it spoken?

Flexible — Will the name still make sense as the firm expands into new strategies, stages or geographies?

Defensible — Are there existing firms or companies using confusingly similar names?

A clever name can create initial interest, but clarity and long-term usability generally matter more.
