For decades, .com has been the most universally recognized domain extension and remains an excellent choice when the appropriate domain is available.
For venture capital firms, however, .vc provides something unusual: an extension whose commonly understood industry abbreviation directly describes the business.
For example:
Brand.com communicates the firm's brand.
Brand.vc can communicate both the brand and industry in a single digital identity.
Neither approach is universally better. The appropriate choice depends on the firm's name, existing domain ownership, audience, geography, acquisition cost and long-term branding strategy.
Some firms may choose .com as their primary address. Others may use .vc. Some may secure both and redirect one to the other.
The objective should be to create the clearest and most defensible digital identity for the firm.
